ABOUT heidi

beginnings

Hi, I am so glad you are here! My name is Heidi. I am a wife and mother, and of course, a doula. I got into birth work following the birth of my second daughter about 3.5 years ago, and it has been an important part of my life ever since. I love attending births and supporting moms (and their partners) during labor. Birth is such a mystery and so marvelous to witness.

I started doing postpartum work when I saw the incredible need for it in my community. More and more mothers are seeing the benefit of birth doulas, but culturally we are still lagging in postpartum care. Too often mothers are sent home from the hospital where they recover in isolation (or with minimal support) where they are lucky to have taken a breastfeeding class or read a baby care book. We are seeing epidemic levels of maternal dis-ease and when mothers visit their providers the best they can do is reach for their prescription pads. Mothers need and deserve so much more. The bodies and minds of mothers are wise and sounding the alarm.

EDUCATION

I am always seeking to add to my training and experience. Here are some of my recent accomplishments:

  • DONA Trained Birth Doula (2019)

  • Lactation Management Certificate (2019)

  • Cuarentena Postpartum Doula Training with Sariah Price (2020)

  • Herbalism for Midwives, Midwives College of Utah (2020)

  • Vaginal Steaming Facilitator Training, Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute (2021)

  • Vaginal Steaming for Postpartum Recovery Training, Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute (2021)

  • Innate Traditions Postpartum Care Training (2021)

  • Utah Doula Association (UDA) executive board (2022)

  • Holding Space for Pregnancy & Infant Loss Training (2022)

  • Advanced Holding Space for Pregnancy & Infant Loss Training (2022)

  • HERBAL Birthkeeper training (2022)

Before becoming a doula, I graduated and completed an honors thesis in art history from BYU. In studying Marian devotion, I first encountered the mystery of birth and maternity, and I was filled with wonder. When I gave birth to my first daughter, I left academics behind to forge a new path, and it has led me here!

just for fun

I am blessed to spend so much time making home for my family and doing doula work when called. I enjoy my morning kundalini yoga practice, working with herbs, and creating community. I love attending a weekly wood-carving class, singing twice a week, and drumming when I get the chance. I usually have my nose buried in at least one book and an unfinished knitting project on my shelf. I draw great strength from sitting in circle with my sisters where milk and stories are shared in abundance! I am happily doing Waldorf-inspired homeschool for my kids this year and telling many stories.

I hope you feel welcome in this space and that this gives you an idea on who I am. I look forward to meeting you too!

-Heidi
